Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine insemination  and also called artificial insemination (IUI) It is a procedure in which sperms are “processed” and placed into the uterus through a fine catheter. The male partner produces a semen sample by masturbation. The sperms are separated from the seminal plasma, white blood cells, prostaglandins, and other “debris” which are normally filtered out during natural intercourse. A speculum is inserted into the woman’s vagina and a catheter with an attached syringe, containing the washed sperm, is inserted through the cervix into the uterus. The processed semen is placed in the uterus with a catheter very slowly.  Before the insemination patient advised to take medicines which stimulates ovulation.  Pregnancy occur if sperm and egg meets in the Fallopian tube and this fertilized egg implant in the lining of uterus. The goal of IUI is to increase the number of sperm that reach the Fallopian tubes and subsequently increase the chance of fertilization. IUI is simple and low cost procedure and it can be less expensive the other type of fertility treatment. It increase the chances of pregnancy, but every patient body is different. So, there is no guarantee that IUI will work.

What Is The Success Rate Of IUI?

Success rates depend on a couple’s fertility problem . Studies have found that for couples with unexplained infertility, the pregnancy rate for each natural IUI cycle is about 7 to 15 percent, and when fertility drugs are used, the pregnancy rate is about 15 to 20 percent. One more factor depend on the IUI success rate which is age. if the patient is under 30 than success rate is 15% to 20% and if patient age is 30 to 40 so, the success rate will around 10 %. success rate is 2 to 5 % for those patient those age is more than 40. young patient should try 3 to 6 cycles of IUI to get success with IUI.
